Blueberries Boost Brain Health

Blueberries may unlock the mystery of Alzheimer's
and other brain diseases, according to a new joint
study by scientific institutes in Boston, Baltimore,
and Baton Rouge, La.

Researchers believe the lowly blueberry may hold
the key to preventing or at least slowing down
several different dis-eases that ravage mental
abilities while leaving physical health untouched.

Experiments on rats treated to come down with aging
illnesses showed that those with blueberries in their
diet had less brain cell loss and overall better brain
behavior than those on a diet without blueberries.

Scientists believe the rich supply of anti-oxidants
in blueberries, which are already known to help prevent
heart disease, may also help slow brain deterioration.

A spokesman for the journal Neurobiology of Aging,
which published the study, said, "Blueberries have
long been dubbed a wonder fruit.

Scientists have discovered yet another reason why the
blueberry lives up to its reputation."

Blueberries are small fruits rarely reaching more
than a centimeter in diameter, and growing on a
small, unobtrusive bush. Some may think they are
insignificant.

But they are not!

Blueberries also act to protect the walls of the
capillaries and veins because of their anthocyanin
content. They reduce the acids that can cause
inflammation and swelling in the tissues. Their
regular consumption is recommended in cases of
swollen lower extremities, varicose veins,
phlebitis, and varicose ulcers, as well as
hemorrhoids.

The anthocyanins improve retinal function and
visual acuity.

Thus blueberries are highly recommended in cases
of diabetes, hypertension, or arteriosclerosis,
dis-eases that affect the retina, producing
a loss of visual acuity.

For many of the benefits above I decided to
included blueberry extract in my newest
